About
I see you there. Yeah, you. The one rolling your eyes. And to answer your question: yes, we DO need another review site. And I’ll tell you why.
Most of the review sites you see today concentrate on all the latest and greatest. They pride themselves on their pre-release review copies as they push and jostle to be the FIRST to publish a review of something. Now, new and current is all well and good, but there are a lot of great things out there flying under the radar because they’ve been around for awhile. Tastes change. Younger folks start noticing movies and music. Taking a look back at some old chestnuts is never a bad idea.
There’s another reason for re-viewing older material, in my opinion. These days, everything is derivative. Movies especially are either remakes or directly derivative of movies from the past. Or even TV shows from the past. And frankly, the remakes are hardly EVER better than the originals. Updating a movie to add all the latest special effects sometimes doesn’t help a thing. You can’t improve on the sheer creepiness of the shower scene in the original version of Psycho. Yeah, we know the “blood” was just chocolate sauce, but it was far creepier than actually seeing blood and gore on the screen.
Music is another matter. It has a history and a lineage. A lot of younger groups pooh pooh history and turn up their nose at older “classic” groups, saying they never touch them. But the people they are inspired by were inspired by these groups. It’s funny to hear a band say they are new and original when they sound just like the Kinks circa 1978.
So here at RE-VIEW we’ll take a look back at some of our favorite movies and music. We may even look at TV every now and again. And so as not to be snobbish, we’ll review some new things now and again. Maybe even take you along to a show or two.
If you have a favorite movie or album you’d like to see reviewed, use the contact form and let us know!
